The term "Short Range Device" (SRD) is intended to cover the radio transmitters which provide either unidirectional or bi-directional communication that may be operated without an individual license. SRDs use either integral, dedicated or external antennas and all modes of modulation can be permitted subject to relevant standards. In the US SRDs are covered by FCC Part 15 rules and in Canada by RSS-210/310. In Europe EN 300 220/330/440 covers non-specific SRDs.
Operation of SRDs is subject to the conditions that no harmful interference is caused and that interference must be accepted that may be caused by the operation of an authorized radio station, by another SRD or by industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) equipment. Due to the many different services provided by these devices, no description can be exhaustive; however, the following categories are among those covered: remote controls, telemetry, alarms, speech and video.
Whatever your SRD device, contact MiCOM Labs regarding regulatory testing and the certification services and approvals required for your targeted countries.
