Alien Technology Corp. taps MiCOM Labs for testing of new RFID system for European market

MiCOM Labs, Inc., today announced that it has completed product compliance testing of a new radio frequency identification (RFID) system for Alien Technology Corporation of Morgan Hill, Calif. Alien Technology is an industry leader in the development of RFID tags and equipment that includes electronic product code (EPC) or "smart" tags that reflect radio signals. RFID equipment is revolutionizing inventory tracking and supply chain management in retail and defense operations. The testing performed by MiCOM Labs validated the new RFID system to a new European standard (EN 302 208) for wireless RFID product performance, qualifying the RFID system for certifications needed for product sales in Europe.

"Alien Technology has led the development of standards for Class I RFID, new generation 2 RFID tags, and now, RFID tags and tag interrogators for Europe," said Keith McDonald, Alien Technology's senior vice president of sales and marketing. "MiCOM Labs' extensive global experience is providing the precise oversight needed for the development of the specifications that will allow usage of RFID in countries throughout the world."

"We are very pleased to be working with Alien Technology, which is renowned for its world-class manufacturing processes," said MiCOM Labs President and CEO Gordon Hurst. "We feel confident that MiCOM Labs' 'design for compliance' approach and the global acceptance of the test documentation that we generate are integrating well with Alien Technology's processes to accelerate the release of new products into markets outside the United States."
